Midtown Club & “Rotary Against Drugs”

Posted By Ryan Kane

The Raleigh Midtown Rotary Club is proud to sponsor Anita Hallberg for this year’s Rotary Against Drugs (RAD) speech contest!

RAD is the result of R. I. President Clifford Dochterman‘s 1992 challenge to members of his Task Force to start district-wide and multi-district drug and alcohol abuse prevention projects.  Why have a high school speech contest in support of this effort?  It reflects the reality that ultimately: “Kids Listen To Kids.”   Research has found that peer programs are dramatically more effective in preventing drug use and convincing kids to discontinuing drug use than all other interventions.  Since 1993, thousands of high schoolers throughout four states have spoken out against drugs through the RAD program.

This year’s theme is “What can be done to prevent drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.?”

The District 7710 District Contest begins at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 1, 2015.
